Introductory Blog Post

Salutations

Hi let me introduce myself my name is Lucas and this is my first Ales204 blog which seems like a challenge in its own way for a non-social media savvy person.  I'm 19 and currently in my 2nd year Land Reclamation at the University of Alberta.  Growing up on a farm near Dewberry, Alberta and living in the country gave me respect and love for the environment and wildlife of Alberta.  Before I wanted to be a veterinarian for my love of animals, I would enjoy it but my true passion is wild animals and the interactions they have with the ecosystem and human activity.

Communication does play a critical role in the modern world as you can tell by schooling, news, and how much time people spend on social media is overwhelming. My social media is limited to Facebook because of peer pressure to get it and emailing because you need it for school. The rest of my internet use is youtube and popular science. Outside of school, I'm involved with the paddling club and dodgeball at Lister.  Then at home I love playing any kind of card games from texas hold'em,  crib, and keiser.  I also do golf, skiing, mudding,  shooting, berry picking lol, eating till you can't anymore and floating down the river.

In the modern day work force communication and computers are coming more and more involved especially in land reclamation.  The use in reclamation goes from finding land locations with gps,  identification of the soil, and communication plays a big role with dealing with companies and the public.  A great place to learn more about land reclamation some projects and goals in Canada is at http://www.clra.ca/index.html.  Social media is a powerful tool for any industry good and bad the interesting thing is what our social media will look like 20 years down the road.
